Programs

LBFE-SF’s over 1,000 volunteers serve isolated and “family-less” elderly people in San Francisco.   All programs operate year-round, replicating what many do for the elderly in their own families.   Approximately twenty-one in-home, holiday and social events are sponsored each year.

Visiting Volunteer Program – Our core program, this program offers lonely or isolated elders living independently opportunities for companionship with individual volunteers who visit them regularly. Visiting Volunteers commit to visiting an elder friend at least twice a month for one year.

Medical Escort/On-call – Volunteers drive elders to medical appointments or home after a stay in the hospital.

In-Home Events – Visiting events for those elders too frail to attend the parties and outings. All events have holiday and seasonal themes.

Volunteer!

We welcome volunteers to accompany us to recognize and accept each of our elders as a complete and unique person and to respect them in their dignity, their intimacy and their essence; to be their advocate and their witness; to help them remain independent and encourage them to make their own choices; to see them as people that are always growing and changing. Our mission is a collective project. Commitment and teamwork between volunteers and staff are at the heart of our organization. For information contact us or email us.
