WELCOME TO LITTLE BROTHERS-FRIENDS OF THE ELDERLY SAN FRANCISCO

Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly is an international, non-profit voluntary organization committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly. We offer to people of good will the opportunity to join the elderly in friendship and celebration of life. At Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly, service begins by being a friend..
Our Motto, "Flowers before bread," means that the pleasures which make life worth living are as important to the human spirit as bread is to the body.

Dear Little Brothers Volunteers:

Thank you for making our Valentines Day Home Visits a huge success! Our elders absolutely loved their visits and there is no way we could have completed over 100 visits without your involvement. We have several exciting events in the works and we invite you to participate in one or more of our upcoming March events.

MARCH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

March 23rd Easter Sunday Home Visits

Easter falls early this year so we'll need your help to make sure we provide a special visit to over 150 isolated elders on Sunday, March 23rd! Since we are expecting a large number of elders needing visits on this special day, Easter meal pick-up will be between 12 noon and 2pm at 1199 Bush St. (please note that we have allowed extra time for this event only because of anticipated elder need).

Volunteers are also needed to help with meal assembly from 10am-12pm.

Medical Escort Program Update

Over the past few months the escorts provided to Little Brothers' elder friends has increased substantially. In order to keep up with the demand for such a need for service, we NEED your help.

Medical escorts Volunteers are needed to accompany seniors to Medical appointments.  Escorts provide caring support thought the trip: offering helping hands and arms when mobility is an issue, navigating confusing hospitals and medical facilities and even accompanying them to the pharmacy to pick-up a prescription.

Most of the elders are isolated and have no one to help them get to their doctors' appointments. Family members may live too far away and some have no family at all. Friends may be just as old and unsteady as the elders themselves. And as day surgery has become the norm for many procedures, a large number of seniors must cancel their appointments when there is no one to accompany them home from the hospital. This may leave the health of an already frail elder further at risk.

If you are available during the day and are willing to drive elders to their appointments or simply ride along in a taxi and assist with transportation, please contact Lucy Alfaro at 415-771-7957 ext. 101 or email lalfaro@littlebrotherssf.org to volunteer!

Our Elder Friends Need You - Let No One Be Alone!

You can help make the difference of a lifetime for isolated seniors in our community. Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly San Francisco is recruiting new members for the board of directors. We're looking for people who share our belief that no one should be alone.
